Education Support Project

Other initiatives 2019

The Education Support Project (hereinafter Project) has been initiated since 2014 from resources provided by the Education Support Program (ESP) of the Open Society Foundations (OSF), being focused on strengthening the civil society’s efforts in engaging in meaningful education reforms, encouraging stakeholders to contribute upgrading education and streamlining education policies. Since 2017, the Education Support Project became an integral part of the Good Governance Department, being co-funded by the Soros Foundation-Moldova and ESP/OSF and contributing to building good governance in education.

This year the Project will continue monitoring the implementation of the education reforms, ensuring transparency of the decision-making process in education and contributing to raising public awareness concerning the need for supporting the reforming agenda. The civil society’s engaging effort and the inclusive participation in democratic governance will be attained through supporting the think-tanks/NGOs active in the field of education, strengthening the education partnerships, and facilitating greater expert community involvement in development of relevant education policies, in this way increasing the public responsibility of educational institutions as well as of various social actors.
In 2019, the activities developed within the Project will focus on the following priorities:
  • Encourage citizens’ engagement for involving in local communities’ initiatives to contribute increasing the quality of education;
  • Increase the civil society experts’ input to advancing education reforms by developing relevant and efficient education policy proposals and recommendations.
Within the first priority we’ll support think-tanks that contribute strengthening the education policies and local NGOs/parents’ and teachers’ associations, engaged in implementing the socio-educational initiatives at the community level, contributing to enhancing the educational actors’ commitment in order to solve real problems and increase the potential of educational partnerships.
In 2019 the Project will continue the implementation of the Empowering School Youths for an Active Participation in Decision-making Project, co-funded by two thematic programs of the OSF – Education Support Program and Youth Exchange Fund. The aim of this initiative consists in streamlining the activity of Students' Councils, established based on students' interests and needs, and their involvement in the decision-making process at the level of the educational institution. The project is implemented in five lyceums, in collaboration with partner-organizations: CONTACT-Cahul Center and DACIA Youth Resource Centre from Soroca.
The second priority is aimed at strengthening the community of educational experts and increasing their contribution to the development and streamlining of educational policies. This effort will be attained in the following ways:
  • Organize meetings with the participation of different educational actors, based on the COMpEC (Community for Quality Education) Discussion Platform, composed of experts from different fields and those open to contribute to identifying and solving problems related to the implementation of reforms in education;
  • Develop studies and policy briefs on education related to issues of public interest and analyze last developments in the education field, presented at public events, such as: roundtables, debates, press conferences, etc. Information about the events will be announced in advance on the Foundation web page.
