Palliative Care Initiative
Palliative Care is an active, complex care, which provides the quality of the end-of-life of terminally ill patients and their families. When the curative treatments are not opportune or efficient any more, palliative care becomes essential and indispensable.
The goal of the Program is to fully integrate palliative care into national health policy. The increasing access of essential drugs for pain control is one of the program objectives.
In 2010 the program will:
- continue to offer support to stakeholders and decision makers in developing/ adjusting normative basis regulating palliative care and pain management, including access to essential medicines
- continue to offer support for the development of Palliative Care Services
- continue to offer support to increase the workforce capacity to provide palliative care services
The palliative care projects initiated in 2009 within the Palliative Care Subprogram will be continued.
